THE WAY WE SEE WEBSITES
The science of cognitive fluency has found that the the brain prefers to think about things that are easy to think about. That’s why you prefer visiting sites where you instinctively know where everything is and you know what actions you’re supposed to take. When you drive a car you don't want to look for the gear lever, do you?

We make attractive sites that work, it is that simple. And when we are done, we hand the keys to you and you can drive if you dare!

We create customised CMS themes (we use WordPress, Weebly, Joomla and Drupal) that adhere strictly to your brand identity, without re-inventing the wheel technically. We are proud of our graphic and aesthetic prowess which propel our sites up the ladder competitively.

We code and conceptualise faster than the average agency because we believe in simplification rather than complicated clutter.

frequently asked questions about domains, hosting etc
DO I NEED TO BUY MY OWN DOMAIN NAME?

Yes, however, we can also do that for you. Either way, a domain name is needed for your website. Carefully consider the name of the domain as it is key to your website's success.

WHAT IS WEB HOSTING?

Every website needs a good, stable, reliable host, where all your website files are safely stored. A host is what lets people access your site and the information within it. We can recommend 3 excellent and affordable website hosting companies, XNEELO, GoDaddy and Afrihost.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO BUILD MY WEBSITE?

Are we building a small house or a skyscraper? Some websites can take hundreds of hours to design and build with multiple rounds of revision, carefully planned stages and months of research; whilst others can be developed and signed off within a week! Every site is unique; every client is unique, and every business has its own unique requirements.

Typically our smaller website projects take from 2 to 6 weeks to complete and more complex projects such as eCommerce or membership websites take from 4 to 16+ weeks.

It depends on the functionality and detail of design required, and whether you supply the content or you need us to create it for you. When we have a detailed specification from you we can then provide a more detailed, and accurate time scale. This is why you need to do your homework and be sure as to what you want to say and achieve, not just with your website but with your business model.

DO I NEED TO SUPPLY ANYTHING?

Initially, we will take a detailed brief from you which will require information such as your brand guidelines (if you have them), functionality requirements, design likes/dislikes, your products/services, competitor websites, your target market and technical information such as hosting details. If you are supplying your own images and copy we will need that too, otherwise we will discuss additional costings for such items.

HOW MUCH DOES A WEBSITE COST?

The costs involved in creating a new website depend on exactly what you need, how many pages, the content on those pages, the functionality required, all sorts of things. We’ll sit down with you and discuss the project in great detail, finding out everything we need to know before providing a fair, accurate and sensible quote for your project. No two websites are the same, and the costing process reflects that. WARNING: The more guess work we have to do regarding your content the more expensive it will be - clients who are absolutely lost as to how to go about it will be assisted with an easy questionnaire so that we can compile content. If your instructions are vague and sloppy, your website will take longer and will be more expensive, no jokes!!
CAN YOU GET MY WEBSITE TO THE TOP OF GOOGLE?

Establishing a page one position in Google is extremely difficult, for competitive keywords at least. Not so long ago it was relatively easy to achieve, but these days it is a lot more challenging, and getting it wrong can affect your reputation and have an adverse effect on your business. The only guaranteed route to a page one position is through Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising. If anyone tells you that they can easily get you on page one of Google through organic SEO, then run away! They are either lying, or may use some ‘Black hat’ method, which may see your website penalised long-term. Having said that, we know exactly what to do to maximise your chances and we have many years SEO expertise to give you the best possible chance. Remember that if your website is built well and if you follow our advice on marketing you should see a good ranking within 6 months.

CAN I EDIT THE WEBSITE MYSELF? IF NOT WHAT DO YOU CHARGE FOR UPDATES AND CHANGES?

Yes. You will be given a login to your website when it is finished, we will also give you training (depending upon budget this may simply be a small ‘how to’ guide, or for larger budgets we may be able to factor in a physical training session) on how to use the dashboard so it is easy to understand for you. If you’d like us to make future changes these are billed at our hourly rate, with a minimum 1 hour time-slot (R350 per hour) - we recommend this as we are super fast with updates and it will save you a lot of time. We do super small changes for free!

WHAT IS A CMS (WORDPRESS/WIX/WEEBLY)?

A Content Management System [CMS] is a software platform that lets its users create, edit, archive, collaborate, report, publish, distribute and inform. Its Graphic User Interface (GUI) makes interacting with a website's database user friendly. In short, it is the software we use to build your website with.

It provides all the flexibility and functionality we (and you) need without having to resort to raw code for a large proportion of the build. We absolutely love it, as do millions of business owners. The back end is beautifully simple and intuitive. As well as creating bespoke designs and layouts, you get thousands of stunning ready-made themes to choose from if you are after something really quick and simple. We can use it to create any kind of online presence you want, from a basic brochure website to an all-singing, all-dancing forum or a complex eCommerce website selling thousands of products.

WHAT ARE YOUR PAYMENT TERMS?

We require a deposit, or initial stage payment as we prefer to call it, of 50% upon contract signing and before we start any work. A final 50% is required when your website is made live.

the web design process requires 7 stages
For us, the web design process requires 7 stages:

  1. Goal identification: Where I work with the client to determine what goals the site needs to fulfill. I.e., what its purpose is.
  2. Scope definition: Once we know the site's goals, we can define the scope of the project. I.e., what pages and features the site requires to fulfill the goal, and the timeline for building those out.
  3. Sitemap and wireframe creation: With the scope well-defined, we can start digging into the sitemap, defining how the content and features we defined in scope definition will interrelate.
  4. Content creation: Now that we have a bigger picture of the site in mind, we can start creating content for the individual pages, always keeping search engine optimization in mind to help keep pages focused on a single topic. It's vital that you have real content to work with for our next stage:
  5. Visual elements: With the site architecture and some content in place, we can start working on the visual brand. Depending on the client, this may already be well-defined, but you might also be defining the visual style from the ground up. Tools like style tiles, moodboards, and element collages can help with this process.
  6. Testing: By now, you've got all your pages and defined how they display to the site visitor, so it's time to make sure it all works. Combine manual browsing of the site on a variety of devices with automated site crawlers to identify everything from user experience issues to simple broken links.
  7. Launch! Once everything's working beautifully, it's time to plan and execute your site launch! This should include planning both launch timing and communication strategies — i.e., when will you launch and how will you let the world know? After that, it's time to break out the bubbly.
